But we'd like to emphasise a few points before you buy the ISO20000 template set:

  • Firstly, just buying the templates will not get you certified to ISO20000. You will need to tailor the documents to your own organisation and fill in some areas that are specific to you. Take ownership of them and make them work for you. ISO20000 has been described as "Auditable Common Sense" and its important you don't lose sight of that.


  • Secondly, the ISO20000 standard talks about "documents" and "records". The templates we provide are the majority of the documents you need. However the records, such as incidents, problems, changes, meeting minutes and configuration items are up to you. These are created by actually following the processes and providing the service, which at the end of the day is what its all about.


  • Thirdly, regard ISO20000 as a minimum standard that encourages a wide and thin approach to IT service management - most of the benefit in a lot less time. But make sure you adopt the continual service improvement culture and enhance your documents over time, in line with your requirements.


  • Lastly, don't forget that people make or break the service - invest in some training and get the key staff members involved in reviewing and developing the documents over time. For your ISO20000 implementation to work, things need to change on the ground, at the sharp end of service delivery.
